Stop Living in Fear

Lets have a covid conversation… Ive been wanting to discuss this topic for a while now, but everyone is just so dang sensitive these days. I don’t want to intentionally offend anyone, but at the same time I hope to provide the nudge and tell you its okay to go back to your normal…

2020 was one heckuva year. For my family personally it was a wild rollercoaster, from my husband finishing the police academy, getting a job with a local department, our income being slashes in half and losing our health insurance, to literally having no money for groceries that week. But you know what? God provided through every single step of the way. At no point did we say, Nope we can’t tithe this paycheck, instead we held firm and trusted him. At the beginning of the crazies, we were on vacation in North Carolina, after which my girls and I were suppose to ride back to Florida with my parents. As you can imagine, that didn’t happen. And a good thing too. On our drive back home we caught wind that people were going nuts and buying out the stores! No toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, flour, sugar, cleaning supplies, or even tissues could be found anywhere. Honestly I thought they were joking, but I had Anthony stop by a Walmart on our way through Kansas, and low and behold, people were legitimately freaking out. I managed to snag some toilet paper and a box of diapers before heading back to the car. And by the way, we just about had to strap my purchases to the roof, just to get back home. In the weeks to follow, church was cancelled, school was cancelled, my ballet classes were cancelled, one by one every single freedom we had once taken for granted were ripped away. And through all of this, somehow society felt like prolonged isolation would be ok… that avoiding human interaction would be ok… that being cooped up in the house 24/7 with your kids would be ok… as if there wouldn’t be any consequences. Unfortunately I have seen far too many reasons to fear the isolation more than the virus.

Just a few weeks ago, a kid came into the local middle school and committed suicide. Teen suicide rates have increased to 1-in-4….. ONE IN FOUR!!!!! This is not okay! You take social media, you mix in total isolation and hormones, you have a recipe for disaster. We were not created to be alone, God designed us very specifically to need companionship. We were not meant to do life alone. We were not meant to do life without our church family, without our mom friends, without date nights out.

If you are still living in fear, this is the time to stop. No possible virus exposure is worth the guaranteed risk of depression, anxiety, stress, and suicidal thoughts. GO to church, GO on a date night, GO hangout with your girlfriends, GO to the grocery store, GO to the park playground with your kids, just GO! Life is too precious to be wasted inside your house. HUG your loved ones and your friends, WORSHIP maskless, GO on that vacation, VISIT that friend in the hospital, GO on a hike, GO to that winery with your girlfriends. Just GO!

Don’t waste the days you have by living in fear, because your time here on earth matters. Live your life while you still have the chance, because God is gonna call you home when it’s your time, virus or no virus.
